Slugs Eating My Toms and Peppers

Netting won`t stop slugs and snails, treat your plants with a liquid slug killer.

 

Cornflowers and californian poppies planted round the veg patch are supposed to deter slugs so I've heard.

 

In February i cover the soil in the blue pellets(thats when the eggs form).
i use a mixture of water and garlic spray.
Boil 2litres of water with a whole garlic for half an hour.
When needed put 2tbsp mixture with 1 litre of water in a spray gun.Spray every night.
Doesnt kill them but moves them on, You still have to pick them up and Dispose of them.

 

south african remedy:

red bush tea .... buy a box redbush teabags .... sprinkle the tea leaves around the plants ... will not kill the slugs/snails, but is supposed to deter them and eventually breaks down to compost

I have not tried this, as I normally use the blue pellet stuff which seems to work fine ... will also try using the liquid stuff that you water into the ground in spring to kill the eggs ... I will use this mainly for hostas which I have planted this year

I will also use the garlic spray mixture next year .... I saw the program on Gardners World recently, where a hosta grower swears by this ... it also just deters them though

watch out they will be back . Slugs and snails are Homing creatures. Two weeks ago i got a snail from my sprouts marked it with tippex and took it 3 gardens down,house owners permission of course. two days later it was back. And before you say it i know i have too much time on my hands.

I noticed you said you had damage to your tomato plants. I have been growing tomatos for a long time and over the past 2 years I have been experiencing treibble trouble with the tomato moth catapillar. At first I thought it was a slug/snail problem then I found like small specks of soil like stuff on the tomato leaves then the tomatos themselves showed signs of being eaten then oneday I went into the greenhouse to find a brown fat catapillar with a faint yellow stripe along its main body. Did a little googling and found out it was the tomato moth and that was causing the problems and not slugs or snails. Just a thought as sometimes these things can look like one problem then turn out to be some other completely different problem.
