Hi folks. I'm trying to get my lawn in better shape this summer.

For the last couple of months, I've been feeding the lawn after mowing it every 2 weeks.

Most of the lawn has improved quite a bit, but there are a couple of patches that refuse to improve even after being fed and seeded.

The photos below show the problem. The lawn slopes towards the bottom left of the garden, and one of the patches is in that corner. I've raked out moss and re-seeded but no improvement.

I'm in the process of building a small patio, and I was going to put in lawn drainage in the bottom half of the lawn, but I've read that doing that might not fix the problem.

So I'm needing some help to identify if it's a drainage problem, or should I just aerate those areas more and try to improve the soil?

    Hi Messyhead,

I'd be inclined to aerate the drier patches and top dress with sharp sand to keep the holes open for more drainage. If that fails, it may be time to reseed!

Thanks for the replies. I'll try forking the areas for a while and see how it goes.
