nothing what so ever. it produces a very good essential oil rich in laevo bornyl acetate, trans-alpha-bergamottene and alpha-copaene. in early july, if harvested and quickly distilled.

"The council says it is investigating the leylandii but hopes the case can be solved through mediation"

I think that chainsaw mediation is the way to go! :heehee:

Leylandii get very bad press - and for good reason sometimes when the garden owner fails to maintain them.

However, these trees are wonderful when planted thoughtfully.
                1) Kept under control and maintained well they are probably the best allround tree for wild birds.
                2) They provide excellent screening and look good year round.

When most people move into a house where they are though, most people will ignore it and the fate of the poor tree is sealed - a fast decline.
Sadly, the majority of people looking for a new home don't give the garden plants a second thought and these trees are a classic case in hand.

I know of a similar example to the one in that newspaper link.
2 weeks ago the trees were reduced by about 50% in height, clearly done by someone other than a proper tree surgeon, they look a diabolical mess and they'll stay that way because old wood has been cut into.
It looks a really sad state and all because the owners didn't do the simple thing and maintain their trees  :cry3::gaagh:
