[IMG] The green man was carved in a tree which had been earmarked for felling

A wood carving of a green man is to unveiled at a nature reserve to celebrate its fifth anniversary.
Pupils from Wick Primary School will help complete the green man, a symbol regarded as a guardian of forests, at the Wick Golden Valley Nature Reserve.
A mature beech tree which was earmarked to be felled was used for the carving.
The sculpture was created by artist Andy O'Neill and features fish, an otter, a kingfisher and bats around the green man's face.

John Morris, South Gloucestershire Council's environmental projects officer, said: "The magnificent tree was deemed to be dangerous following a tree inspection. So was felled by Lawrence Tree Services.. ( My son in Law.!!)
"So instead of felling it and using the wood for fire wood we managed to save the six metre trunk to create a stunning carving which greets people to this wonderful nature reserve."
Councillor Brian Allinson added: "This stunning piece of natural art has already attracted much interest and many compliments from visitors to Wick Golden Valley.
"[It] really enhances the environment in one of our most beautiful nature reserves."
The project took ten days to complete and was funded through a grant from Defra's Aggregates Levy Sustainability Fund.

Now those are stunning Marley, especially the second one, quite breathtaking.

There are some carved trunks of Dolphins near the Sainsbury's on the Isle of Wight ... I wonder if your friend did those?

We have also seen gypies on the roundabout at Thame carving with chainsaws. It's quite awesome.

    Thanks for sharing. k-l

    What a talent!

There is a large tree stump in a garden next to a Sainsburys not far from us which has been carved into a howling wolf, I wonder if your friend made that too?

amazing thing to be able to do.

I went to a wood fair at Bentley a couple of years ago and watched a guy turn a tree trunk into an eagles head in about an hour!!!
