    Hi,

At my mothers house there several groups/bunches of a type of onion or garlic.

It comes annually, it is standing at about eight inches at the moment. The plant tops are light green and grass like, with the stems of the plant a light reddish colour. The plant has a garlic smell rather than that of an onion.

Anyone have any ideas what it might be?

    Thanks

probably garlic chives, here in lancashire my chives are 6 inches tall but garlic chives are hardly out of the ground, im guesing your further south, but they do smell of garlic and they do have a reddish tinge as they emergem they wil looose this later in the season. You can you them just like chives ie chop the whole bunch down to 2 inches, use the leaves in salads omlettes as a garnish etc and the clump regrows.

    Hi,

I am located at Howden, East Yorkshire.

From the replies and having looked at images on the net, i am 90% sure that they are garlic chives.

    Many thanks for the advice
