I sowed a few packets of seed earlier in the year - teasel, poppy, bergamot, scabious, and after pricking out and growing on ( I forgot to label every pot!!) I ended up with this plant!

It's about 50cm tall at the moment and has white flowers - 5 notched petals - which tend to hang downwards

the leaves are pretty plain, in pairs opposite each other going up the stem

Any ideas of what it may be please? I am hoping it is not a weed - I've certainly not seen a weed like this before!!

Certainly looks like White campion. It's not a weed native to my garden (and I have loads!!) So I wonder where it came from - maybe dormant in the compost I used!!

So now the question is, do I keep it as an annual and collect seeds for propogation next year - or is it a weed not worthy of my garden? Personally I think it's quite pretty, but my views may change if it becomes invasive!!

I don't think it's very invasive, the seed pods are cool and rattle when they are ripe, it has other names, cow rattle or thunder flower which describe the seed pod stage of the plant. Not out of place in a meadow or hedgrow but it's up to you if you want to cultivate it. I think a patch of these would look quite nice and they will rattle in the wind which adds another sense to your garden :).

Thanks for everyone's replies. I think I will try to cultivate it, as I had brought some ragged robin and teasel seeds to try to add some nice wild flowers to my garden. And some wouldn't go amiss in my white border when I create it!! And when you see how much wild flower seeds cost per packet, I may as well make the most of the plant I have!! :)
