Hi, well I've not been on the site much lately so thought I'd better get on! So, how are we all doing ? I'm doing ok, I sowed a lot of seeds a week ago but none have came up... YET! I will plant lettuce in a few weeks when it warms up a little. I was in the library earlier collecting lots of gardening books and the woman serving me gave me a good tip; plant raddish inbetween the lettuce as they go well together and keep any pests away with a strong smell. I assume thats right, and will do that as I have raddish seeds too! How much (if any) have you guys got sowed in your gardens so far in 2010? Or indeed are you still in a winter mood, and can't be bothered weeding and turning the soil over yet after the harsh winter ? :lollol: Well I best get to bed and read some of my book I got along with the gardening books tonight; Diving Madness by Robert Muchamore, the Cherub series. Well, night everybody! Or shall I say morning :lollol::ywn:
Hi jm, don't think we've "met" on the site before but here is what I've been up to! All my efforts so far is on seeding in pots on the windowsill. I have a huge shared garden that hasn't been touch in gawd knows how long, so much work to be done with no tools and no money, fun! At the just sowed/germinating stage we have mainly pretty things to brighten the garden both this year and next, Sunflowers, Poppies, Geraniums, Dahlia, Lupins, Marigolds, Pansys, Cornflowers and so on. The only edible things on the go right now are Mint, Rosemary, Thyme, Parsley, Cress, Dill, Basil and Peppers on the kitchen windowsill. The Parsley is have a party and just loving the location on the window, the others are a little behind but getting there. The sweet peas are doing good and right on track for going out when the weather is a big kinder. Until my borders and maybe a raised veg plot - money providing - I won't be doing anything else edible. If I can get a raised bed sorted, it'll be various root veg and the like for late in the year harvesting. I've just been to the library and taken out the River Cottage Handbooks, they make for nice reading in bed hehe. I was a little disappointed with our libraries collection of gardening books, luckily the internet provides all sorts of great gardening info!
Hi JM,Good luck with your gardening,Things are a bit later where you live but I think you should try to weed a little bit.I wouldnt like you to lose heart if they florish in the sunshine.I have been sowing small quantities of seeds in a cheap propagator and trasfering them to windowsills to make spaces for more when they get little leaves,Nice little Tom Thumb lettuce mature quickly and transplant well .
Thanks for the replies guys. Going completely of the subject, when are you changing (if you haven't already) the heading thing for this site from Winter to Autumn ? I'm gonna change it from winter on the first of April, as it still feels like winter now to me!
