Wild fruit trees?

I'm going to try and find out more about the hedgerow here and will let you know what I find out.

 

Have you counted the woody species in it ?

There is another hedge in Guildford, very close to Johns gaff, that I noticed had too many species in it. Part of it runs alongside the A3. Its a survival of the hedge beside the ancient drove way that ran along the chalk ridge.

 

Cant see anything about the hedgerows here. But the village is very old, I will mail the history group.

On the subject of food for free there is an apple tree along the 358 Ziggy heavy with what look like very good apples, anyone know the legality of stopping and picking them?? It is obviously on dept of highways land??

Hi Mrs C,

Legally they belong to the landowner. In reality, not sugesting that this is a good idea, but if someone was to pick them wearing a high vis jacket & a hard hat, no one would take a blind bit of notice, even better if they had a few road cones with them.

Stopping might be a different matter, isn't the A358 a clearway ?

Eating is a different matter too, the road was built 20 odd years ago, when most engines ran on leaded petrol, there could still be contamination in the road verge.

 

But do you really want to give Mr C anything containing a personality altering metal like lead ???:OUCH:
