Hi Scotkat, yes this is so sad that it has come to this and it is spreading now across the country.:(

One man was trying to stop them last night and he is now in hospital fighting for his life, another was stripped down to his underware for his jeans, three Asains run down and killed by a hit and run car and that poor young chap that was beaten to a pulp and then those scrotes came along and robbed him when they pretended to help him.

I know I shouldn't say this but the army needs to be brought in to try and stop this because it is just going to get even more out of hand if nothing is done soon.I did say to Mr K last night that by putting 16,000 police officers down in London other towns would be targated and I was correct going by what was on the news this morning. The problem is that even if they are caught the punishment won't be harsh enough and they know it

One of the problems is that if one of the thieves is injured or killed in the recent rioting it will escallate the problem and then the Police will be under attack for doing it.They say that all this has started due to that young man getting shot by a Policeman last week and has since died but i am not sure as I have only just caught up with it all in the last few days...

Here is a link to some of the areas that were torched since it all started last week...

I would take all our good soldiers back and put all these guys that are starting these riots over and make them do what the soldiers are doing and take the good guys home.

Yes I believe you are right Kate about that and it is going to be even worse next year when as many Policeman are made redundant to save money.I saw on the net last night that a lot of retired Policeman were going to be called on to try and help out in this situation. Not sure though if that is still the case.

I am listeing to Five Live this morning and two lads from Croydon were talking about why they were doing it,but i couldn't understand the language they were trying to speak and two girls from Manchester I think it was were saying as they were swigging back the drink that it was a good night and they had enjoyed watching the shops getting burnt and looted and to them it was all a big joke. They even had jobs to go to so it wasn't that they are poor and hard up and needed to do it in the first place. The world has most certainly gone mad at the moment:scratch:

Would you really want to be in such a dangerous situation as Afghanistan with those yobs who have no sense of responsibility or duty and being required to depend on them for your very life? I think not.

In my opinion this isn't 'Broken Britain' this is a result of softy left attitudes towards discipline in schools and at home.

When it has all died down we will then see claims of brutality going in against the police and the way they handled the situation, the sad thing is that these claims will probably be upheld and compensation paid.

I can't think why anyone is surprised. This has been waiting to happen for some time.

        I see two causes.

        1) There is a world wide mood that has turned negative. I think you can't separate this from the Arab awaking, the greedy bankers, dishonest MPs etc. For 40 years we have had an unbridled expansion in the economy based on higher and higher amounts of debt. This has put more and more money in the hands of a minority. In the US it is said that the top 1% own as much as all of the bottom 95%. However as long as house prices were going up and jobs were plentiful everyone was happy. Well the party has just stopped and people are not happy.

They are beginning to realise just how corrupt the people at the top are. Not just in Arab countries but in the West as well. The Wachovia bank in California has been found guilty of laundering $360 billion (not million). The bank was fined a sum far less that the profits it made and not one single person was found guilty - apparently no one knew that $360 billion had passed through the bank. Wall Street Is Laundering Drug Money and Getting Away with It | Economy | AlterNet There are loads of similar cases of fraud in the US and in this country. I think a lot of people world wide are p*ssed off. But thats no excuse for looting.

        2) The second reason is that during that golden period we became so relaxed about crime that young people know that they won't get punished almost irrespective of what they do. On the news at lunchtime, they said that one looter has been tried and sentenced to one day in prison, but as he had already spent the night in a cell - he was released. :cry3:It sends out a clear message - its OK to loot.

I think the police should arrest the lot and stick them in a 'boot camp' for a year - give them some discipline! I am so pleased i don't live in a City.
