My mother in law has a large tree which I think is a Silver Birch. Since spring the bark fas almost completely fallen off.
I know nothing about trees but am worried this tree may have died and will need to be cut down. Can anyone give me some advice please.

Good evening Steve and welcome to the site.:dbgrtmb: May we have some more general pics of the tree, as close-ups don`t tell us much. Silver Birch do tend to peel though, so nothing to worry about so far.

Is that really a Silver Birch, it reminds me of a Eucalyptus I had at me last house - also with peeling bark.

I would say almost certainly it's Eucalyptyus. If so, they always peel like that. I had to mow a friend's lawn when he was away once and his Eucalyptus had shed bark all over the grass. The smell was quite wonderful!:dbgrtmb:

Looks like eucalyptus to me as well. Apart from a photo showing most of the tree it would be good to have a fairly close photo of some leaves. :dbgrtmb:

Thanks for you replies, and apologies for my lack of knowledge. Yes it does appear to be a Eucalyptus.

It seems nearly all of the bark is now on the floor and the grass has more or less stopped growing. So presumably this is normal then.
