Ok so the other half let me loose on the top of the garden which had been neglected for many years and until recently had some very tall connifers from next door blocking all light. The area lies up against a big hawthorn tree which unfortunately sucks all of the moisture out of the soil. In places the roots prevent me from doing pretty much anything, but I'm trying to create some ground cover at the back. :P We had to clear it out and completely dig over the area thoroughly, working in bag after bag of soil improver. I put bulbs in for spring and summer, and have just added various perennials I've done from seed and cuttings I've acquired. I've done a lot of annuals from seed too, and I like to think of this garden as a way to experiment, and just keep learning as much as I can. When we move into our own house in the next year I'll be taking everything I've learnt and making something extra special....well I will try at least.

Here's a few snapshots as it's progressed from the start in september last year until the last photo taken today.

Very pleased with the results, I wanted structure and I think I got it....the area to the right struggles as it's very shaded...have added some hardy geraniums and heuchera...also foxgloves galore for next year

Thanks every for your comments!! The bottom one was the latest, wanted to wait for those glads to make their appearance before I posted them all on here. A shame my camera isn't brilliant, you don't get the full impact of their colour on the photo :(

The gap on the left is to allow access to the other half's veg planter btw (just out of shot)....although maybe I'll sneak something in there one day !!

Many thanks everyone :D yes lots of stuff with me coming with me. Will divide and or take as much as I can :) the rudbeckia are giving this area some nice height right now. Will take a pic this aft and put on later when in on my laptop :) I love colour variety!! I know it's not very uniformed but I just see so many plants and think.... I have to have THAT!! No point limiting myself to colour schemes.... At least for now anway lol.
