The strength of winds here in the UK was discussed in some detail on the 'greenhouse' thread
We get some fierce storms (and even tornados) here in N Ireland
On 26th December 1998 my house was hit by a tornado which smashed open the garage door, then lifted the flat roof off the garage and part of the adjoining house, and carried the lot some 50 metres into the rear garden
I have attached some photos, first of a tornado taken from my house, and then of the damage caused (note the steel beam which was lifted and carried by the wind) and of the repairs and how things look today, with the flat roof now replaced by a pitched tiled roof ( a much better job)
As I said on the greenhouse post, ALL of the roof tiles on my home are now individually firmly nailed down.

Takes me back to when I'd design roofs and get wind speed info like this from manufacturer's guidance notes:

And yes, it does look rather windy there!

Living on the Island, I can sympathise Whis4ey. Obviously we get similar weather which I was trying to get across to Dai on the greenhouse thread.

We had our garden fence replaced earlier this year with an alternating planked one to let the wind through, but still giving us privacy. We were fed up replacing panels as well as the expense. This coming winter will be the test.

With the new roof, you have a very smart house now. It's looking good! :)

Yep, I think Jack's right, your wind problems due to eating too many greens.:heehee::D

Whis4key, I am so glad Ireland is where it is, it saves me from an awful lot of bad weather.

I can understand your pain Whis4ey though never seen any tornadoes unfortunately, where abouts do you live? Im in Tyrone right on the border, live on top of a hill facing the whole clogher valley and beyond into Monaghan

Beautiful views but would chill you all times of the year, Guess were kind of lucky we dont get the same snow that the mainland does but it likes to rain :(

      Hi Greecko
We are over in Antrim on the shores of Lough Neagh, and up on a hill taking the brunt of everything thrown at us :)
