    i'm thinking of taking to a few antique dealers on saturday, see if any of them know what it is. but i dont even know if its old enough to be called antique!

    I have seen something like that before, maybe in a film.
    I'm sure it was in a Buddhist or Indian temple.

    I've had a look around the internet but can't come up with anything. My husband says he thinks it may have Jewish connections too.

    Would it be worth trying to locate a local Rabbi or maybe a synagogue. :)

    sorry, no. I did a car boot last weekend and the stall next to me was antiques, so I showed it to the bloke and all he could think of is that it's post WW1 and its an ornament.
    we're going on holiday, so I'm afraid I'll have to keep us all in suspenders for a while yet...

    It would help if we had its size

    I have certainly seen shire horses at shows with a similar brass arrangement on the forehead but only about six inches high and certainly NO STRIKER as it would fall off
    So I do not think so

    Jack, if you check the first post again you will find the image is NOT of the actual item, it had been taken off Google. That is definitely part of a Shire Horses` tack.:dbgrtmb:

    sorry to leave you hanging, peeps. have been on "holiday" which turned into unpaid labour helping someone move, so we came home early. anyhoo, i'm taking some coins etc to auction on thursday, so i will take this piece and find out wtf it is once and for all. and i will let you all know!
