    hi guys

got a a tree in the garden i'm thinking of removing and was wondering if its safe to break it up and add it to the compost heap

the tree i think is a conifer of sorts, was here when we moved in ..

reason i'm asking was some one advised me not to or at least not to much of it as the sap can be toxic ??

It will take a long time to rot, and the resulting compost is likely to be mildly acidic. Neither of those points will be a problem if you have the space to leave it for a long time, and you grow rhoddendrons, but personally I'd burn it, then scatter the potash rich ashes over the lawn and in the flower beds.

Hi Giffas, if the tree is a conifer then don't put it on the compost heap as the wood is resinous and doesn't break down as quickly as deciduous soft wood, plus it is acidic in nature. The same goes for any foilage off it.:D:what::DOH:
