    Hi,

I have two Dwarf Rhododendron (Night Sky) in pots. I bought them in April and they where flowering for a month then stopped (which I gather is normal as the label says May)

Now strangely they have started to flower again last week. Does anybody know if this is a problem? There are only three flowers so far but both plants have them.

    No problem
Plants sometimes have a mind of their own when the weather confuses them :)
Enjoy any late flowering when you can :)

The flower buds form on the current year's growth, so their buds are developing now in time for next spring's flowering. However, if the weather conditions confuse them then they can sometimes flower this time of year. I've got one Rhodo threatening to do that at the moment.

It doesn't mean anything's wrong, it just means you'll have less flowers in Spring.

Have you ever noticed with rhoddies, that new (what appear to be leaf buds) will change into flower buds if the plant considers that there are not enough flower buds forming?
        True
Like all plants, some years are much more prolific with flowers than others. You will usually get a lean year after a particularly prolific one
I have had a few flowers on some of the rhoddies recently, although not the normal full blooded ones .....

You're right, the flowers this time of year are poorer quality.

I didn't know that about the buds though. Obviously intelligent plants :thumb:

One of my favourite jobs in the garden is pinching out the dead flowers. I don't know why but I find it very relaxing.

My favourite shrub, I just love them and I could happily spend hours tending them.

If you have the time, please come over and prune mine ... I have quite a few and never can find the time to keep them in good shape :)
Yes ... you are right ... they are one of my favourite shrubs too, and the flowers in May and June are really quite spectacular and stunning
        Great shrub

I'd love to whis4ey, but you're just a bit far away :loll:

We'll have to have a Rhodo photo thread next Spring I think :)

My dwarf rhody is flowering as well. I'm glad to hear that someone else has the same thing. BTW it is a lovely lemon colour:thumb:
