Did anyone else watch this film on TV last night? A perfect example of how subtlety can be more powerful than full on facts, and the ending is a real shocker. Couldn't get to sleep after watching this.

I have recorded it to watch sometime soon; I read the book last year and I too was amazed by the ending. I was really affected by the story.

a very moving story, i have it on dvd well worth a watch

 

A friend of mine in the village gave me the book the other week to read but havn't had the time yet to get stuck into it,then forgot to record it when it was on the telly last night:DOH:Will have to catch up with it on iplayer if i can :D

Can someone tell me if the film is the same as the book?,as I have often found that the book story can be totally different to what the film story is all about,Thanks..

Very Poignant and moving Piece Of Film Making. It Lived With Me For A Long Time. The Acting Was So Very Natural And The Whole Plot/Story Line Was Fantastic. I Viewed It On D.V.D Some Time Ago so I Did Not View On T/V.:(.

 

The wife watched it, which sort of meant I watched it although I was trying not to.

It was horrible in the extreme. I'd heard and read plenty about what the nazi filth did, and the film just made me angry.

That said, I guess its a story that has to be told. If there was to be anything worse than what was done in the past, it would be if people failed to learn from it and and allowed it to happen again.

 

I watched it far to say i cried at the end :'(.
OH was picking up on the continuity errors, IE the uniforms.

 

I do that when the soaps are on really annoys Mrs lazydog, but the film I did see a couple of years back and agree very moving and should never be forgotten things like this and much worse did happen and to be honest probably still are sadly.

 

I took my daughter and a friend to see it at the cinema, mainly because the friend had just done her Politics dissertation on the holocaust. I thought the film was tame, predictable and certainly not worth watching a second time.

 

The film apparently showed events as seen through the eyes of an eight year old German boy who obviously has no idea what is going on around him, hence the title, he wonders why his friend always wears pyjamas!! his mother also is unaware believing the camp is just a prison. I think the film captured this very well and the scene where his mother finds out what the smoke really is I found shocking because I could imagine how she might feel!! It would of course be unsatisfactory on a tutorial level, Schindlers List and The Pianist are far more graphic on actual events.
