Hi all, I got a dicentra which had beautiful pink and white heart shaped flowers (see avatar) little bits of it seemed to die off which I cut back and it looked quite healthy for a while. Now however, it has turned a yellow colour and looks quite ill, is that normal at this time of year or is my plant dying? I took a cutting off a broken branch when I bought the plant and it is now a very reasonable size so I won't be completely without those great flowers if the original plant is on it's last legs. Any advice welcome

bleeding heart is a perennial, and will die back then recover in spring

the ones I have planted, have all died back more than a month ago .... when the stalks have died down completely, cut them off just above ground level, add a good mulch in a few weeks time and they will re-appear in spring ... bigger and nicer ...

I think it's decided it's hibernation time. They do leaf out and flower quite early so it's done a decent stint already.

There is also a Burgundy coloured one that is a dwarf variety (about 12" height.
My Pink Dicentra finished over a month ago, however the dwarf one seems to retain the leaves all year and flowers longer than the pink one. Its also easy to transplant and split.
