Not sure what to do as its very warm and could do with leaving the vents open on the sides of the tunnel but would i be better of shutting them with the storms forecast :what:

Just keeping an eye on the garden throughout the day to ensure nothing gets blown over and damaged. If it looks like getting too strong I'll moved pots in exposed places and also garden furniture.:D:thumbsup:

Currently gusting 36 mph here, but forecast for severe gale later with speeds of up to 80mph.
Looks like we won't be needing a ladder to finish off picking the apples:D

38 knots ((approx 45 mph) here in Cambridge according to our local weatherstation

according to another site about wind, 39-46mph:, Fresh gale breaks twigs off trees; generally impedes progress

well, I've called it a day ... done some mowing etc and it's not pleasant out there

I've done a lot of swearing today. Pots blown over, stuff shredded, bits blowing everywhere. Hoping my blow-away doesn't take off or come apart. Stupid wind!!!

Yesterday evening I shut 2 out of three vents on the side the wind would hit and left the poly tunnel door shut this morning.

There's been very fast moving low clouds most of the day with some terrific gusts in the last hour or so, and I'm off to check it out now (plus see if there's any more windfalls).

EDIT: 76 deg F, so not overheating.

I can't get the current observations for our local weather station. Perhaps its in pieces scattered over a wide area by now because of the wind:OUCH:

I was out earlier in the car, and I saw a poor old lady crossing the road, she nearly got all the way across when a gust of wind strong enough to rock the car sent her back in the direction she'd just come from. That was about 3 hours ago and its been getting progressively stronger since then.

I fully expect to see some damage by morning.

I feel for the people down the west coast, I haven't noted which way the wind is blowing but I know the prevailing wind comes from the west, so those of us in the east benefit from a couple of hundred miles of land mass, and the penines, to give us a bit of shelter from the worst of it.

Its been blowing a hooli here all day and last night, polytunnel standing firm. We did earth a friends door flap up today on his tunnel as wind was getting under that...he can dig it out tomorrow :loll:...but I guess it's better than driving a few miles to collect the whole tunnel.

Steve...:)

I have an old door mat that gets thrown over the door 'skirt' in the poly tunnel entrance. We often joke as to whether we should be wiping our feet on the way in, or on the way out.

To be fair the winds here were minor so just used them to test mine the only job i need to do is change the door from the zippy type to proper job which will be done in the next few weeks,i have a piece of scaffold board along the flap at the front at the moment after being reminded by scrungee's post
