    :yho: I have been much impressed by our UK biking community recently & I think this is the icing on the cake so far this year...!!!! 15,000....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yho:

    As an ex-biker for 40yrs I was so pleased to here they were going to do this & you know... If I could have borrowed a bike & the gear I would have joined in...!!!!!:yho::yho:

    I think this is a most wonderful gesture... As a biker since my teens,in sport & everyday life I have experienced others discrimination & disgust over at least 40yrs of biking & bikers, about how we have no cares..!! WRONG...!!!:scratch:

    My daughter rode pillion with me or my other half for most of her life... She loved it & made many friends through it... We have experienced the fear & horror of others over the yrs.. We went to the Isle of Man.. We went to the grand Prix's...:)

    All around...

    Bikers are not nasty people to be feared, we are like you, most of us are family people who love their family homes & gardens ..!!!
    I am actually overwhelmed every time the people from Wootton Basset open their hearts to our fallen heros anyway... For who have given their lives unquestionally for our country & to make it a better place for us.....! Now our bikers who have always put up with allot of criticism over the years have yet again shown they are as human as you, me or anyone else with feelings...
    So to all mothers & fathers who have lost a child whether in peace or in war.. I do not think anyone knows the pain & pride..

    Yes Marley its great what they have done, there are bikers and there are bikers, I guess the minority get the majority a bad name.:ntwrth:

    Get one overtaking and coming head on at you at a closing speed of 120mph on a sunday on Romney Marsh, and your view gets a bit clouded.:skp::D

    Another biker here. Been riding for many years.

    A lot of bikers get a bad name, but many many do runs for charity (just think of the Easter Eggs bike runs for children in hospital that go every year).

    It really is a tiny minority that makes people think we are all dreadful..!!!!! We did the Christmas Toy Run for the childrens hospital for many years as well as many runs out for Cancer Research & the local hospital Orthopedic & Accident units..! Many bikers have ended up there.. Much good can be done by riding a motorcycle... :thmb: Aaron like you I would have loved to have done it but no bike no gear now... :cry:

    The minority that give the bad name to all bikers is twofold - the reputation of Hell's Angels is one and the other (and much more serious) are the 'Weekend Warriors'. The latter are (sometimes) middled aged men who rode years ago and have got the disposal income to buy a motorbike that is more powerful than they had before or they can handle...and end up in a ditch or under a lorry. Weekend Warriors can also include young eidjits that only ride at the weekend, unlike us poor sods who ride in all weather (as I was doing a few weeks ago in the pouring rain to get to work!).

    The motorbike group we belong to does a lot of charity work, for The Snowdrop Trust. Last autumn we did a huge ride out (150 motorbikes in total - we even stopped the traffic by sheer volume on the A27 at Portsmouth!) to give a young man who was diagnosed with liver cancer a fun day out. He and hs wife went pillion with other riders and had a ball. Sadly, he lost the fight after only 3 months and died last month :(

    :thumb: I think you have it in a nut shell there Aaron.. I rode 6 days a week for work & college all the weathers it could throw at me.. Now I am glad not to be riding in the bad weather, but do iss it on sunny days..!! I cannot be a fait weather biker though I don't really see the point, but as you say Aaron, usually older people buying bikes for weekend runs out....
    :dh: I think the best I have seen of them is one going round a roundanout far to slowly on a Honda Lead Wing.. The bike just laid down & he was pinned under.. He did not have the strength to get out from under or lift it back up....!!!! The other was a guy in a fuel station filling up.. Went to get back on & got himself pinned against the pump...!! Both of them could not support the weight of their bikes on their own....!!! Yes Aaron I did go & help on both occasions but it was very hard not to laugh at them..!!:wink::dh:

    I am ok with riding in the rain, but I'm not going to say I relish it! If there was a choice between car and motorbike in the rain the car wins...but three weeks ago I had no choice as my OH was working in Sheerness and he had to have the car to get there. Needs must. Saying that, commuting through Haywards Heath is a lot easier on two wheels...filtering through the stationery traffic on the A272!

    I've come off the bike once and adrenalin kicked in - I somehow lifted the bike upright on my own. Would never be able to do it in normal circumstances. Suffice to say I probably did more damage to myself (back) doing that than I did falling off in the first place. Motto - do not swerve and brake at the same time when it's wet AND your front wheel happens to be on road markings...

    I used to ride bikes (motor), I had 2 Royal Enfields (125 & 350 ), Triumph (250 ), 2 Panthers (250 & 600 ), 2 CZs (125 &175), A Jawa (350 twin), 2 Velocettes (350 Viper & 500 Venom Veeline).
    At 80+ I now lead a senior cyclists group. We cycle to a local Pub for lunch and back home again (30 to 40 miles). We sometimes do a car assisted ride to a more distant area.

    Well Royal Enfields were my last.. A 250 Crusader Sports.. 350 Enfield Bullet.. 500 Meteor Minor.. 350 single Matchless I was also a Moto Guzzi fan & was friends with Stanley Woods.. I had an old 250 Moto Guzzi Lodola & we exchanged many bikes & parts over the years before his death.. OH also had BSA Road Rocket & Gold Star, 500 Triumph & Laverda Jota.. Sadly now I do not find the roads inviting..!! Full admiration for Aaron & those that still do..!!!:gnthb:

    The 350 Royal Enfield that I had was a WD/CO, never issued to the Army it was issued to the Cambridgeshire Constabulary at the end of the war. Sold off eventually and bought by my father, who sold it to me (we used it with a sidecar). The white metal big end had to be replaced eventually (by my cousin, afterwards spent the rest of his working life at Boeing's, Seattle). He found that an eccentric crank pin had been fitted to flywheels which where out of true, so I had to buy new flywheels as well. RE's must have made a lot of faulty crank sets to make it worth while making eccentric pins.

    Aha then you may have solved a problem we could not.. I agree with the eccentric crank pins though...!!! They were lovely days Larkshall & I am just so glad we were a part of it..!!! BTW a Velo or a Scott was always my dream..!!. Never had one of either but a friend did so I id get to ride one at least..!!:wink::gnthb:
