    Hi,
I bought a Lavatera & a Passion flower yesterday from the supermarket, they are both about one and a half feet high. It says they can be planted from July - September. Should I plant them both out now or will they be at risk from frost when the winter comes? My one and only gardening book says they should be planted in spring. I live on the Isle of Wight so the climate is mild (most of the time).
    Any comments welcome

    Thank you

I think you'd be ok planting out the lavatera but I don't know about the passion flower. Last winter here it was horrible so I wouldn't plant anything out that I wasn't sure of! My greenhouse is going to be full this year sheltering various plants I don't want to lose!

I would plant the Laveteria now. It will be OK.

I take cuttings in October - just cut off a straight shoot and cut back to about 2' and stick in the ground at the top of the garden.
The almost always survive and flower the following year, after transplanting - usually in someone else's garden, as I seem to give a lot away.
Being up North they have to survive Frosts of -10C and worse + Snow levels of 2'+

I'd plant them both now too.
