I've got a real glut of tomatoes at the moment (green through to ripe), but there is only so many times you can have roasted toms on the side of your plate or have a salad :D I'm thinking along the lines of a chutney (unless anyone has any other ideas), has anyone got any good recipes please...:thumb:

    Thanks in advance

Make tomato sauce for bolognese/lasagne/chilli and freeze it, you can also dry them in the oven, freeze them and then add oil when you defrost for "sundried" tomatoes. There's always tomato soup as well. There's loads of tomato chutney recipes online. I made green tomato chutney last year and put it in Christmas food hampers I made up for presents, it went down a storm :-)

        Oh Blimey,

I made a Girt bottle of tomato sauce the other night, but I didn't use a recipe, just made it up as I went along.

        Went something like this,

Chopped Toms, onions, corgettes, garlic & chilli, drizzeled with olive oil, salt & pepper, roasted that till mostly burnt:DOH:

Then put in a pan with loads more toms & some vinegar, found that it glopped everywhere on the hob so stopped doing that & put the pan in the oven and moderated it enough to call sauce instead of soup.

Put it through the blender & bottled it.

          make a salsa...yum
put aprox 8 medium toms,3 cloves of garlic and a chilli (up to u how hot or which size)in a frying pan(no oil) and roast(hot fry) for 10 mins turning toms so they soften all over..
then squish it all together in a bowl (i use scissors to chop it up in tiny bits then get the spud masher on it:))
add half a chopped onion,a pinch of salt, a handful of fresh coriander and squeeze a lime in it........yum:D i love it,especially with salad and french stick or with a bbq or steak n chips :heehee:

Well, today was the big experiment; I made a chutney including home grown toms, apples and onions, I loosely followed a recipe I found through google, it said its best left for 1-2 weeks before trying so time will tell if its any good or even edible :D

I've made a few more bottles of Tomato sauce & have a tray of nearly dried out ones, this sun is helping:sunny:

Finding it hard to get motivated today, stopped taking the Ibuprofen yesterday but the depression it gives me hasn't worn off yet.

Got a load more ripened up to sort out tommorow.

Tomato relish? - milder and much less 'vinegary' than pickle. It's great on hamburgers, hotdogs or as an alternative to pickle. Homemade tomato soup? - 1,000 times better than the stuff that comes in a can and freezes well for up to 6 months.

If you'd like either/both recipes, just ask.

Well it's been 10 days so I couldn't wait any longer :D, had to have a sample and to quite honest I was very surprised I've managed to make something that tastes quite nice; tomatoey and sweet to start with and then a lovely warm spicy after taste, nothing too bad but its there......not bad at all if I do say so myself :D :thumb:
