Good morning, its so nice to find a place where people will not yawn when you talk about gardening. I do not know anyone that enjoys it - they all just put out bedding plants and that is it.

I have to admit until 5 years ago apart from potatoes and herbs I was much the same, but then started growing vegetables in pots as my back garden is small and steep and no room to be terraced and that has kept me happy, growing from seed then planting out and giving away all the extra seedlings on Freecycle as could only plant so few.

This year though I found I wanted to do more, so I have started to turn my rather large side garden into vegetable beds - big snag is its only surrounded by 3ft fence and no hedges, and on a busy road, so hoping no one decides to do their vegetable shopping in my garden. Have put in Rosemary bushes all round ( cost meant they were what i could afford) and hope to slowly add other types of bushes over the years.

I cannot dig so have just literally put compost on top of grass and planted plug vegetables - only decided to use side garden in August so to late to grow from seeds. So at moment have 3 10ft long by 2ft wide beds filled with vegetables and all covered with fleece that is fitted on half hoops. So far the grass is not growing through the compost but the vegetables are growing well.

For next year I want to do my no dig beds properly.

I hope I will not drive everyone mad here with my questions as I have so many, and as said above no one to talk to about them, hubby would have everywhere paved over if he could, but happy to take me to garden centres, carry heavy compost etc as it keeps me happy.

I have Fibromyalgia and suspected MS so it puts me in bed a lot, so trying to come up with ways to keep weeding and caring down to a minimum - garden tap in back but at least a 50m hose means I can keep all side garden watered.

EEks have rambled on, sorry, just a nice feeling being among -people that don't think gardening is a bad word.

    Hi Debbie

My original home, what part are you from ???

Lots of gardening mates that will understand our OCD with plants , mine is with Daylily's I just cant stop buying them , I keep saying no more then I see another one or two that I must have thats the problem with being on line:WINK1:. so easy to spend as the garden centres only stock a few varieties.

Anything you want to know just ask , and you will hopfully have lots of diffrent answers:heehee:
Good time to do hardwood cutting and a cheap way to make a hedge , if you are intrested post a question .

Hi Debbie from a REGULARLY wet Northumbria - including today.

regarding Rosemary, there is a link on a thread in the last 24 hours relating to propogation.
Have a read and get the plants you need without the cost - hopefully.

Do a search on the top menu for Rosemary. Theres a lot of info. already there for you.

    It's worth a go.

Hi Debbie, welcome to Gardeners Corner.:D:thumbsup: Well, if you like gardening you're among friends here without a doubt. We have gardeners here who have health problems but who seem to put more effort in their garden than us more lucky with our health.:heehee:

They're a very friendly and helpful gang and always willing to give good advice when needed. It also helps if you're a little insane and have a wicked sense of humour.:heehee::what::pathead::yess:

Photos posted in my album Prepare at home

As you will see I have a largish area to fill up, having fun now trying out plans for next year as want to make the most of the area - my aim to be self sufficient in vegetables within a few years, plus have enough for my children and their families to help their budgets, none of them are gardeners and with young children and young dogs plants would never survive ( my dogs are like me oldies so quite happy just to amble round). Main worry is other people helping themselves hence me planting the rosemary hedge as we live in a conservation area and fences and walls at front cannot be higher than 3ft. I know the hedge is unlikely to grow more than 3- 4 ft but hoping it will be enough to stop people just nipping over fence to help themselves. Am thinking of maybe getting screening as technically its not a fixed fence, but as garden so big it still works out expensive, but will see how it goes.
