My neighbour has gone on holiday leaving me to look after newly tranplanted fuschias in her Glasshouse. The problem is that three of the seven have very dry leaves and are dying quickly. Have I given them too much water and should they be grown in this environment?
A s far as I can tell they are cuttings only put in some 14 days ago but I do not know whether any rooting agent was used. Do these plants need less water than others because it may be too wet for them?
These are cuttings of some 14 days ago and I have no idea what or how she has transferred them only that some so far have dried up completely.
they maybe getting too hot as it has been quite sunny? if they are not rooted they may appreciate being in a bag to retain some moisture.
Thank you Carolyn,I will certainly try that and hope I can save the rest before she comes back from her holiday
I'd say, the compost needs to be moist, but not wet (if you get my meaning). The leaves will quickly lose their moisture, so keeping the cuttings in a bag should help. Also, keep them in some shade. Hope this helps. Cheers...Freddy.
I would say they are too wet, and if in full sun the water in the pots would get too hot and start to boil them. I also have cut some of my stock back and defoliated them today. Some I did after our show have lovely new growth ready to take cuttings from. Think I will put them into the greenhouse over the weekend so should a frost come while I'm on holiday they should be OK.
