    Hello,

My name is Kat. I've been living in a top floor flat for the last ten years and have desperately been trying to find a little bit of green space to do some gardening, plant some flowers and grow some veg. Thanks to a garden share scheme that matches people wanting a garden with elderly or disabled people who are unable to tend their garden I have finally been given some garden space.

I have a border, along the edge of the garden, to call my own. It's roughly 1.2m x 18m but is currently completely overgrown (head high in places) with old raspberries, brambles, grass, saplings, stray weeds, what I believe may be St John's Wort (or something in the same family) and various other miscellany. It's going to take a lot of work to clear it but I'm very excited.

I've decided to join the forum because I've never really gardened before and no doubt I'll be back asking all sorts of silly questions about my soil, where things should be planted and what I should be growing/how to grow it etc.

    Kat

It's good to hear everyone is friendly and helpful because when I find it, I've got a big long list of daft questions to ask :D

Check out places like Morrisons and other Supermarkets that have a Plant Section. You can often pick up end of lines of shrubs for a couple of Quid to help fill this border. Some may need to be given TLC but usually develop into a nice plant.
18m can accommodate quite a few once cleared and could be pricey if you just use Horticultural suppliers.

Thank you for all the lovely welcome messages.

It's the Edinburgh Garden Partners. They're still in the early phases and struggling to get funding (they're a charity) to expand beyond one district of the city but it's such a valuable project.
