:) Thanks for your help and advice....:dbgrtmb:.
At the moment Samsung Galaxy Ace is favourite.
    From Phones 4 u.
The phone is free on 24 month contract £10.50 a month rental  ,with 100 free minutes per month and free texts.
Apparently it has a Sat nav included, which seems brilliant if it works and connects to the car speaker system via Bluetooth....whatever that means lol.

Virgin do a slightly better deal....BUT..I need to be able to go to my local shop when I have problems.....as I no doubt will.

I have t-mobile pay as you go .... the package I use is called TT15 ...

for £15 a month, I get 200 minutes talk time to any UK numbers, and 600 texts

I then add another £5 bolt on and this gives me very cheap international calls to south africa

so, for £20 per month I have the ideal package for my needs .... I never use the full amount of texts or minutes, but they are available if needed

I was just going to suggest Virgin Roders , got to the bottom of the thread and you beat me to it ! Virgin runs on the T-Mobile network , had no trouble with it for price and performance in 3 years :dbgrtmb:. I just use a basic phone these days. I thought you had to be under 30 to use a smart phone , as you are contractually obliged to be messaging or have it to your ear for 90% of your waking hours :D

That it may do, but it will only work if your car has bluetooth. Not all cars do.

I bought from the vodaphone shop basic text and phone, with 3mpix 4x zoom camera choice of six colours £5 credit for £20, it is pay as you go, and if you plug the ear piece in it acts as an ariel and you can listen to radio stations like a tranny

I only use it for important comms, car breakdown, car held up in traffic and may be late home
Like Shiney, I have only paid for one £10 top up in a year, only £9.20 credit left

Your choice, but in order to get their money back its a 24 month contract. What will you do if after 18 months you don't like it / a better phone comes out? you still have to pay the remainder of the contract.

I'd personally go to a phone shop and get them to go bring you one out and have a play before committing yourself to a 2yr contract:thumbsup:

it's also worth phoning up other phone companies and tell them that you have seen the same phone their offering cheaper at phones 4 u and see what deal they can offer you

I have an LG phone, not sure what model.

I'm 23 and wouldn't want a phone that had the internet on, else I'd just find myself writing random old rubbish on Twitter, FB, etc.. and they charge a lot (unless it's included) so I pay £15 a month for unlimited texts, my pc is what the net's for.

Fair comment WG,but I have had my previous one for over 5 years and it's still ok. exept that it seems to have lost it's volume and I never hear it.
More concerning is if I lose it or damage it,I don't want to pay exuberent insurance prices, six or seven pounds a month.

but who really wants to spend that much on a phone? cheapest deal for that is tesco with an upfront payment of about £300 and then £25 a month for 12 months:mute:

I don't mind at all and don't spending that out :) I pay £35 per month and I've had it a year so far. I don't see it as a lot to pay out. I love technology :) and I'd rather have the best. Plus my LIFE operates from my iTunes library....couldn't live without that. Too tired of buying other mediocre brands and being disappointed every time.

              Personal preferance I guess.

way I look at it .... what do I need the phone for? ...

I'm old fashioned, and for me, I only need a phone to make and receive calls and send texts .... so a cheap phone does the job, and I still use an old one (Nokia N95, which was my teenage daughter's phone before she upgraded)

for music, I use my Apple Ipod and sennheiser over ear heaphones (I use this daily when working in gardens) ...

for the younger, and for my children, Iphone is their choice, but they spend lots of time on sites such as facebook

I have a small laptop which I carry around ... this has the T-Mobile broadband dongle, and it costs me £15/month for broadband on the move .... so if I need to check mail or chech something on google whilst away from home, I use that

my daughter says I'm better off with an iphone that does all that .... but maybe later when she upgrades to the next iphone
