what is this plant

    hello my girlfriends son planted a plant at school and for the love of jesus christ the cleaver teacher dont know the name of the thing so its bugging me now help lol, all i can say about it grew really quickly six inches in 3 days and the seed itself as about half a inch around and was in a brown speckled skin, when the seed started to root the skin came away and the seed inside was broght green any ideas pictures attached many thanks.

    The pics a bit small.

    Just a guess, but it sounds like some kind of bean, the reason its grown so fast I would also guess is because its not getting enough light.

    I am sure you are right Pete. I think beans are a standard for children because they grow so fast. However I think that the fast growth in three days may be because it is a very large seed and stores enough food to give the plant a huge start. Photosynthesis probably hasn't contributed much yet - that's yet to come..

    Runner Bean planting seems to be favourite in schools at this time of year, I should know I just supplied In house Advisor's class with pots and compost!:D
    They always grow them too early and end up taking home a 2 foot high plant in a 3" pot:dh:.
