Need some new wellies

Five years ain't bad going, surely?!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I'm definitely going to give the Hunters a miss then. I guess they're now just trading off their previous reputation and their 'fashionable' image.

As it's been so oddly dry and it's now winter so I won't be in the garden too much, I think I'll put a little money aside over the next few months and get a pair of those Dirt Boots that Dave W recommends. They look great and one reviewer said they're really warm - perfect for British festivals!

on a tangent ... bought one of those wax waterproof jackets today ....

brought it home and my wife told me to hang it on the porch .... she says it smells like wet dog

daughter said: 'Dad.... you can't wear that!'

 

Muckboots

Just bought a pair of Muckboots for winter gardening etc - Devon can be quite muddy.. - and am very happy witt them so far

 

I normally go metal detecting once a week so tend to walk a lot through mud & rough ground.My wellies started to leak so needed a pair urgent.I was in town and purchased a pair from Shoe Zone for just over £5 and was not expecting them to last 5 minutes.I have had then 2 years now and also wear them for gardening.
They are a good as the day I purchased them.True you only get what you pay for but in this case that did not apply.
On a side note,for Xmas my wife purchased me a pair of Hot Sox to put in my wellies.They are excellent as they are thermal,thick and 2.4 tog!! You can also get them under the name of Winter Warmers.On ebay just type in Hot Sox and even if you do not buy them from ebay you will get an idea what you are looking for ,Amazon also sell them,they cost around £5-6 and worth every penny.

 

In regards to wear/damage issues with wellies one must remember that brands do manufacture models made from different materials. I decided last year to purchase some Hunters Neoprene Balmorals that have been used for long daily dog walks and gardening including heavy digging on the allotment and re-landscaping the garden. With some wellies I may have expected sole damage due to the repetition and force from digging however once washed they appear in very good condition.

When buying a wellie maybe consider the material, the heal support/strength followed by the sole grip.

Thus far, I have had Argyll's which lasted for twenty years.
Then when they went paid vast amount for a new pair only to take them back after a week split
Then the oh said that Dunlop do them thought they did tyres
She said that thehy only cost about £5 in Screwfix.
Off I went and sure enough got a pair and they are quite good.
Winter digging and general plodding round the field with the dog.
If as good as original Argyll's then who knows.

 

I used to be a wellie obsessive,now I go for warmth and a fat cushioned sole . I wear La cross Alphas,I think its been about 5 years I have had them,the heel is just high enough for me to ride in them with out slipping out of the strip and toes stay toasty warm when its bitter cold like today.
