Only 2 days to go now to see if Anonymous can actually take Facebook down. This is going to be interesting.

What is this Facebook you all talk about? :what:

Never been near it or that tweeter, twitter, twatter, whatever, either.

    Thank goodness. :D :D

Mind you. I had a dot com website in 1993 when the web site thingy was in its infancy. I seemed to have slowed down with progress (progress? ) since then. :) If I keep slowing down, do you think I could go into reverse? :D :D

I am on it just about daily. I may not comment daily. But pick an chose. Find it insighful sometimes to what others are doing, what 's happening in the world. I really do like it.

      From wiki;

Anonymous (used as a mass noun) is a group, spread through the Internet, initiating active civil disobedience, while attempting to maintain anonymity. Originating in 2003 on the imageboard 4chan, the term refers to the concept of many online community users simultaneously existing as an anarchic, chaotic, global brain.[2] It is also generally considered to be a blanket term for members of certain Internet subcultures, a way to refer to the actions of people in an environment where their actual identities are not known.[3]
In its early form, the concept has been adopted by a decentralized online community acting anonymously in a coordinated manner, usually toward a loosely self-agreed goal, and primarily focused on entertainment. Beginning with 2008, the Anonymous collective has become increasingly associated with collaborative, international hacktivism, undertaking protests and other actions, often with the goal of promoting internet freedom and freedom of speech. Actions credited to "Anonymous" are undertaken by unidentified individuals who apply the Anonymous label to themselves as attribution.

Mrs Shiney swears by Facebook. Sorry!!! :love30: Got that wrong :(. She swears AT Facebook :heehee:.

She started an account some years ago because our nephew (who lives abroad) wanted her to see his photos. Since then she has been inundated with people wanting to be her 'friend' or 'poking' her . Now, any email from Facebook is automatically deleted :dbgrtmb:

I haven't bothered with Facebook or Twitter but admit to having joined LinkedIn because I had to - but delete all communications (which are only a few per week) as they come in.

I can do any of my inane chatter here on GC so don't need anything else :loll:

Never looked at any 'social networking' site and probably never will. I can keep in touch with distant family by email so have no need of it.

I look at facebook briefly every few days, but I just don't quite get the point. It's very, very boring - am I missing something?

I have found it quite useful for turning up people from my dim and distant past who i haven't seen for 20 years. Usually there's a reason we haven't seen each other, though.

I also use it for messaging those middle-layer kind of friends, who I haven't got a phone number or email for, but sometimes it's useful to be able to contact them.

My nearest and dearest are either not on Facebook, or if they are, I'd rather see them or phone them.

Oh dear, this is the "never trust anyone over 30" divide, isn't it? Who is Anonymous? Where will it be taken down from? Why should I be interested? It probably is really necessary to explain!

We find that the phone and emails are plenty for keeping in touch.

Between Mrs Shiney and myself we get 50 - 100 emails per day (we're both involved in a lot of organisations :D) and also Skype friends and family who are all over the world. It cost me all of £12 to buy a camera/mike for the computer :dbgrtmb:.

Some members of Anonymous claim Facebook provides user information to government agencies so some of them (definitely not all) want to teach Facebook a lesson.

They'll either try to take the site down using a Dos attack, in short they'll run programmes which will send a high number of frequent requests to bombard Facebook's servers effectively overloading them, or they've already hacked Facebook's code and are ready to go on the 5th. Effectively closing Facebook down from the inside.

Or they'll do nothing. Probably best if they do nothing really but you never know, they're a pretty powerful group.

I've got a FB account and I have about three and half friends. How sad is that?

I know someone who cancelled Facebook on the grounds that 'the lack of privacy is a nightmare'. Instead, she now has Twitter, and spends her days sending small parcels of inane nonsense to 'followers', most of whom she's never even met.
