Greek bearing gifts springs to mind. Maybe I am an old cynic, I don't imagine he just came across his millions by accident though.

I am trying to find their fuel price ( both types) per kWh on their cheapest tariff available ( on the Ebico site) can't see it anywhere.

I have a good friend who knows the family of this Matt Stockdale so will have to have a chat with my friend to see if he is legite or not.If I have got it right his father is Henry Stockdale and he used to sell game birds, venison etc, as a buisness so that is probably where the family money comes from.If Henry has retired this Matt may have taken over the family buisness

Something needs to be done as we are being screwed left right and centre by these money grabbing b******s

i think for me it will be a question of "WATCH THIS SPACE FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS ".
i feel like Lollipop ,"beware of greeks bearing gifts". we have all heard promises of saving money for years from various characters ,they come and go,( RICHER ) than when they arrived ,
(with our cash!). you have heard the old saying
"if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is". i agree with Kandy we are being screwed left right and centre by these money grabbing b******s but have we found a new" ROBIN HOOD"
or a new SHERIFF OF NOTTINGHAM . we have lost that much trust in the establishment over the last few years we are getting ,and rightly so , questioning these save money deals !!!!
just watch what you agreements you sign . read the very small print (which gets smaller!!!)

WAIT FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS music :skp:

I have been with Ebico for a couple of years. They are quite respectable, and you can find their prices on their site if you look under products and prices. http://www.ebico.co.uk/gasrates.php . For electricity prices go to products and prices at the top, then Equipower.

They charge a flat rate for all units, so people who use small amounts don't pay over the odds in fixed or initial charges. The more power you use the less economical it will be. I have no complaints, but I thought that being an ethical company they might have reduced their rates - but they haven't. I recently did a comparison and found nPower was a bit cheaper. But the sum quoted included a first year lump sum reduction of £60, and in the second year they automatically put you onto a different tariff. You do have to see what the charges would be in the second year as well as the first.

That new company sounds interesting, even if it only makes the others drop their prices.

firstly, ebico was a link given to me on the Money Saving Experts site, I don't use them and had never heard of them before today. from what I have read here, they sound disappointing. :(

I googled Matt and it came up saying he owns Homepride, so I'm guessing thats where his money comes from.

He was on our local news a month or so back, because this elderly couple died in their home and weren't discovered for a few days. when they were found, they described the house as in "freezing conditions". Matt got involved and asked their neighbours (elderly) if their homes were heated properly, as they should be. Mostly he got "no" as an answer. So he told them all to turn up their heating and HE will pay their heating bills for this winter. :) He said it's his way of "giving back"

There are so many rich people who are selfish and greedy and think of only themselves, and I was touched that Matt seems to feel differently. It has restored my faith in humanity a little.

I myself cannot heat my home as I would like, the average temp is 15c. Last year I was lazy and didnt use the coal fires much, and relied on 2 storage heaters, and ran up a £500 debt with Atlantic, despite already paying them £90 a month. I have just about paid it off now and am in the process of swapping to npower. But it hasn't been easy this winter for my family (hubby, 3 kids) and I myself have suffered chilblains! The British Gas yesterday goes and announces record profits while the poor among us freeze, well, you can excuse me for getting a bit irate!

I have just compared Ebico with E.ON using the figures of my last bill. My premises are all electric and the Ebico price is 29% higher than E.ON.

I think that which company is the cheapest will depend on your pattern of usage. As I said Ebico has no fixed cost or higher rate units. So it appeals to low usage people, who pay a disproportionate amount in higher rates.

In your case Larkshill, as you are all electric I am not surprised it was more expensive. You will only pay one set of fixed or higher rate charges and consequently most of your units will be at a lower rate. So you need a company with a cheap lower rate almost irrespective of what it charges for the first units.

When I moved to Ebico, it was about 30% cheaper than nPower. But everything moves. I was happy to move away from nPower because I thought that they were dishonest. nPower said that the first 4572 kWh of gas usage each year would be charged at a higher rate and the rest at a lower rate. However when I checked my bills I saw that they were charging for more than 4572 units at the higher rate. When I challenged them, they said that they were within the law, and that a year could be based on their definition and did not have to be 12 months. I think that is sharp practice.

When I did a price comparison a few days ago, nPower came out cheaper. But under this cheapest of their tariffs I noticed that in the first year they made a fixed charge of £100 for gas after which all units were at the same low price. But in the second year this fixed charge was automatically increased to £250 with a slightly lower unit rate. I suspect that many people who sign up are not aware of that increase, and again I think that is sharp practice - although in fairness it is stated on their site.

I changed to all electric last Summer. I had previously had Calor Propane central heating and the usual electric (lights, TV, shower, freezers, fridge, propagators, garden and DIY tools).

The average cost per week over the year was £33.
The average cost per week for the last six months (bearing in mind that we have had a worse Winter period) has been £31. The next six months should reduce the average considerably.

It sounds like you have gained from that Larkshall.

One of the problems is that so many organisations (and not just power companies) offer you a good initial rate, but after a while the normal higher charges start to apply. They rely on people being persuaded by cheap offers and then either not noticing the increase or being to lazy to change. This means that it is very difficult to compare prices. But that's a deliberate part of their policy.
