Mrs Shiney thinks it may be a bird feeder but the holes seem much too big!

It looks as though the base can be screwed down

In the old days I may have kept my Stovepipe hat in it :heehee:

Well, it looks like a really big feeder doesn't it?! The only Bird food for that would seem to be fruit, i.e: Apples etc. Otherwise:scratch::dunno::D

It looks very much like one of these bird cages, only it doesn't have a door (economy version?):

I reckon, it is a Squirel / Pidgeon / Cat deterent
You place the bird seed/ feed container inside and only small birds can enter

Hi Nick it looks to me like the sort of container which would hold either fruit or perhaps fat balls for the birds to feed on although the only way to find out exactly what it is is to ask the person who brought it for you what it is.I would have thought there would have been a lable of some sorts on the item telling you what it is:scratch:

Love the bottle holder by the way:thumbsup:I was given a bottle of wine with gold thread attached to it this year like yours under the bottle holder so greatr minds think alike:D

Good thinking, Jack. But wouldn't they have to be very small birds to fit through the wire? :heehee: Perhaps it's a squirrel proof feeder for climbing worms.

I've seen quite a lot of variations on that theme, Paladin, they're suppose to be ornamental - don't think they have a real purpose.
Sold as garden or garden-room ornaments as mini bird cages.

 Tricky one Pal... Well not knowing, I think I would use it as a fir cone holder as I use fir cones for fire lighters & have a basketful of them stashed round the corner of the chimney breast... Newspaper holder..??? :heehee:

I can't spot that design amongst this lot  :heehee:. I don't think this lot were very good because all the birds had escaped. :loll:
