Whatever it is it's powerful enough to have off with two near fully grown swan signets last summer  so the trap would have to be quite something :D

Picture of a cardboard cat as evidence?

Naah, it'll never stand up. :D

Big cat sightings don't seem to be quite as common round these parts, although my daughter saw something about 3 or 4 years ago while on work placement at a local farm.
The farmer was with her at the time and they both saw the creature, from their description the nearest which fitted was a Lynx or Bobcat.

Well, it looks like a big domestic moggie to me.:kittykiss::kittykiss: As for for a cat having to be big to take something sizeable, where I worked, an Advertising Company situated on a old Country Estate, and there was a squat but powerful cat there called "Struggy". That cat used to horrify the girls in the offices by killing and then dragging a Rabbit nearly twice it's size across the front lawn to show off before eating it. It did that on average about once a week.:D If we had a Panther, or the like, anywhere loose in the UK I'm pretty certain it would have made it's presence felt to the point of a least a close up unarguable photo being taken. Still, we do like stories.:D:heehee:

I have seen a Panther, run across the road through the woods near me
I was driving at the time, so no pic, but definately a Panther
We have that many sightings in Fife their is a dedicated Police officer assigned to them,
The next village along Ladybank, there were paw prints in the fresh levelled soil awaiting turfing next day
They took casts, and have sent them away
Why send them away I know not (well for concrete proof I suppose) :loll:Not plaster of Paris, as an extra large paw print six times bigger than the local 3 stone Tom Cat (weight NOT testicles) with claws is enough for me

There are so many bad puns in this thread that I think this takes the funniest thread of 2012 by a whisker.

Excuse me, Axl, this is serious.:D Despite being a non believer and a cynic I have to report a Panther sighting long ago..........Well, actually it was Pink Panther, but it was a good film:heehee:

The closest I've come to a Big Cat sighting, and it was close, was when I was in the RAF stationed in Rutland in the 70's . A friend and I headed out to fish a private lake we'd never fished before after getting permission from the land owner, who had a sense of humour.
We found the entrance to the land, drove about half a mile up a country track to the lake. It was a lovely day and the most easy place to fish was on the far bank so we headed for that and set up to fish. There was a 12' or more chain link fence quite tight up against the bank but we had room to cast and fish. We fished for best part of the day, without much success, then my friend who was pouring some coffee looked towards the fence and pointed. Turning around I saw two pairs of big yellow eyes staring out us from the high grass. It was two Lionesses on the other side of the fence who were very curious as to what we were. They didn't try to attack us but just lay in the open staring at us for about 30 minutes before moving off. We found out later that on the other side of the fence was the holding ground for the Smarts Circus's animals, and of course the land owner "forgot" to us. My friend often tells the tale to other people and loves watching their faces as they decide if he was pulling their leg...............he wasn't, as it is true.:D

So you are saying Eddy, that Panthers, Black Cheetahs, definitely DO NOT exist in the wild in the UK?

Naah, Dai. the event actually happened but they were contained animals [i.e: by a high fence and quite secure], and also used to Human Beings..............although it took both of us awhile before we started acting casual and like big tough Anglers. This thread original subject is about presumably escaped Big Black Cats, nearly always "seen" from afar with nothing to give scale when photographed. Come to think of it, why is it always a Black cat or Panther like creature:scratch: Why not an ordinary Lion, Lioness, cougar, or the like.:D

Sorry Dai, missed your last post. I have learnt that one should never say Never, but let's face it, the Black Cats sightings have been reported for Decades all over the UK, not just in one isolated county, and yet no Big Cat has be captured or photographed clearly or close up. With the number of sightings that we have in nearly all our Counties, isn't it a bit strange:scratch: The country is too intensively farmed, the unfarmed areas visited by literally tens of thousand, even hundreds of thousands, of walkers, hikers, bikers, etc for us not to have proper evidence after all these years and "sightings".
