Having recently landscaped the front of our house and rearranged the beds I have noticed plants coming up that I have not seen before. At first I thought they were poppies but don't think so now.

I have checked your very comprehensive weed list but cannot see anything similar. Can anyone help. Have attached a couple of pics - hope they are the right size.

    hi ajuga,

unless anyone else has an idea, i think your first assessment was probably right - papaver somniferum - I can't think of anything else. Shows what a ridiculously mild winter we are having, there are some coming up around here too.......

now you've said that sal, i'm doubting myself..... brassica is more likely at this time of year..... still want to say poppy though....

ajuga - does the foliage smell cabbagey, amd is it quite thick with a bloom on it?

I think we need a better picture , but my bet is on the brassica for the simple reason that is very invasive and more frost tolerant ....
it das look like papaver somniferum , but is too early and the p.s. leaves are more hairy .....but very similar to the picture.

Thanks for all your help on this. The leaves do smell brassica like. Think I had better get rid of them all before they take over. Of course they are the most healthy looking plants in the bed at present!
