So what does everyone else have?

It's come to our attention that our TV is very, very out of date and we could do with an upgrade... it's falling apart, the screen is actually skewiff and angled at the bottom subtitles are impossible:rolleyespink:

so as part of the upgrade we will be swapping out the old vintage sky box as we stopped paying for it about 4 years ago :WINK1: and we really fancy a few more free channels and love the Idea of watching BBC Iplayer (and ITV Player eventually) from the TV:wub2: we've decided that we will probably go with Freesat as we don't have a TV aerial and neither does the new house will be going to (dear ** mumsy moves around more often then Gypsies:mute:)

My mam has Sky. They try to make her pay for channels that we get for free on our freeview box.

At some point I'll be going for Freesat. Can't see the point in subscription telly. There's plenty of free rubbish to watch without having to pay for it.

The Humax ones are a bit much on my budget LD although I do agree if I had the money then it would be Humax or one of the top of the range Samsung models:thumbsup: we will be getting the Bush HD Freesat box from Argos (staff discount of 10% +£3 off coupon and then 2 months interest free on the Argos card is too good to miss:))

Buy Bush Freesat HD Digital Box - Black at Argos.co.uk - Your Online Shop for Digital boxes and services.

Me too Sheal. Trouble is I have to set up my In-Laws who have a telly in every room and they seem to think I'm some sort of expert even though they know I don't watch TV :what:. They have Virgin cable TV in the main room which is the best reception but expensive. In their bedroom I got them a TV with Freeview built in, it was really easy to set up and automatically found about 80 channels. The only trouble is getting a decent signal, luckily we are very close to a transmitter so a £5 set top aerial from Argos did the trick.

Go onto this site and enter your postcode and it will tell you what type of aerial (Antenna suggestion) you will need, hopefully it will say "Set-top" for you too:

            Free Sat

I bought a Panasonic tv 2 years ago with Free Sat and Free View already installed inside it , so no need for an extra box to recieve the extra channels.. i had to have a satelite dish erected which cost 80 pounds and now have around an extra 140 channels ,
i love my TV esp the nature and gardening programs broadcast in HD

We've had this TV for over ten years and the last one for 26 years. The set top box, about six years old, gives us Freeview so we now have another load of channels that with repeats that we don't watch. We also still have our old video recorder that we recorded some programmes on but have never watch what we recorded. In addition to that we have had a DVD recorder for four years and have never used it :heehee:.

We have SKY tv downstairs and freeview upstairs.

I would not bother checking with any website which aerial you should have as they are only "guestimates / what should work" they can not take into consideration where you aerial is now, and anything that is in its way.

Bear in mind there is no such thing as a "digital tv aerial" so anything that claims it is one, is probably an ordinary high gain aerial with the word "digital" added to bump up the cost.

You may also like to consider a signal amp such as

[IMG] other brands of signal amplifier are available.

One more thing, if you opt for a set top box, you haver to get one for EACH tv you have in the house, otherwise the other tv's will get either nothing, or the same as what the tv with the set top box is watching, but you only need 1 signal amp.

Ditched Sky a couple of months ago, got a freeview box, I hardly watch any TV but there are enough channels for Inhouse Advisor (apart from Eurosport).
