Burnt Monkey Puzzle Tree Trunk

Hello to all

I have recently moved in with my partner. She has in her garden a monkey puzzle tree. However for some reason over the yearsshe decided to burn garden rubbish at the base of this tree and as a result this has burnt and charred the the trunk of the tree. About 4 feet up there there is a large chunk of bark missing and the edges of the surrounding bark are charred. I have now convinced her that doing this was not a wise decision and now we are wondering if there is anyway we can repair this damaged trunk. The tree itself is still obviously alive but the trunk an eyesore. All help towards a best solution would be appreciated

Nope. No repair possible at this late stage. I suspect that the wood under the bark is probably damaged also, so rendering any possible repair futile anyway.

 

Oh dear not quite what I wanted to hear. The tree does however look like it is still alive. Are there any suggestions as to how we can actually make this look better or is the tree doomed. Would at least like to try to repair even if futile

wow what a shame , if you think how expencive those trees are and how long they take to grow (50 years before producing any seeds)!!!!
I was just thinking if lime sulphur will work on it....It`s a tecnique used on bansai tree ...but more then the estetic part let hope that the tree is not doomed.

 

I've seen full grown oaks slowly die over a number of years after having burning cars at their base, effectively cooking the trunk.
(Its a local pastime with the youths around here).

So I'm inclined to think your Monkey Puzzle is going to slowly decline.
