Hi, can anyone suggest any colourful flowers than can be grown either in the ground or containers for an area that gets no sun during the day?

Have no experience to offer although I grow lots of colourful plants in semi-shade areas where the sun gets to fo only the odd hour or two. i feel sure that there are plenty of suitable plants.

Have a look at the RHS site under shade planting. There are not many colourful plants that will flourish in shade but they make up for it in foliage colour and texture.

Agree with BogHopper. NO Sun is tough. Give it up for yellow hosta's they will pop out any little light that may come in to that area.

I`ve got a shadow side in my garden ....where the soil never dry but it `s dranage free and I have to say that I manage to grow most of my flower in that corner.
Callas lily (they actually don`t grow very well under sun)
    clementis are very happy there
sweep pea (they usually dye quicker under sun)
    african lily (no problem)
    dahlias (they grow even bigger)
    crocosmia
asian lily (I lift the bulbs in winter)
and the most surprisly of all the red hot poker that everyone assaciate with sunny spot , they are actually growing bigger and better in the shadow.

I have bergenia, brunnera, pulmonaria and vinca in my shadiest spots, and use bedding begonias where there is some evening sun. If you plant in containers, you can always move bedding plants etc to a sunnier position now and again to increase flowering!
