        H, there is no doubt that it's illegal to photocopy official documents but it's done all the time - maily through ignorance. Some documents have data encrypted into coloured dots or circles on them. I would be inclined to allow them to make their own copies of the documents (without you leaving them with them) but they should not be in colour.

        There is no excuse for a solicitor not to know the regulations. I guess that they have asked you to copy them because they didn't want to be liable for breaking the rules. For an insurance claim black and white copies, at the most, should be acceptable. don't let them B/S you.

          I'd want copy stamped across the front of anything copied, along with the signature and date of the solicitor taking the info.
