    Evening all.

As I laid wide awake in bed last night, despite being tired, I realised I must reduce my daily caffeine intake.

The trouble is, I thoroughly enjoy my cuppas, so much so that my typical daily caffeine ritual is typically:

1 or 2 mugs of tea before work.
    2 strong coffees at work
4 mugs of tea between getting home from work and going to bed.

    What can I drink instead?

Not alcohol, I get plenty of that at the weekend.

I enjoy herbal infusions, but mostly in the summer. I know about dandelion coffee, but to be honest its not great. I'm after something as satisfying in winter as a proper cuppa, but without caffeine.

What about caffeine free coffee. Kenco is quite good. :)

    caffeine free tea?

Can't stand the stuff myself but you might like it. Personally I don't think 8 mugs a day is excessive.

How about rooibush tea - doesn't taste the same but you can have it with milk, so it looks the same, pale brown and steaming. I also drink a lot of Indian chai (you can get it from Asian supermarkets or Tesco's etc). It always comes out very weak so I reckon that's OK to drink late at night. Or is it not possible to get decaffeinated tea, though I've not tried it.

Hmmm, that's a tough one, Clueless:scratch::dunno::D I'm like you, two mugs of loose leaf tea first thing in the morning. Another around noon, or maybe earlier:heehee: Then a mug of strong expresso in the early afternoon, with 3 to four mugs of tea in the evening. You get to a stage when your mouth becomes a bit dry with so much tea and I resort to a glass of cold orange juice and lemonade in equal proportions. It seems to cool and "clean" the mouth and freshen up the taste buds.:coffee::coffee:

    Thanks for the suggestions all:)

I forgot to mention I've tried decaffeinated tea and coffee. I didn't like it at all. To me it tasted of chemicals.

I might give the dandelion coffee another chance. I don't put sugar in it Zig because I find it sweeter than real coffee as it is. I think that's part of the reason I'm not that much of a fan, because I don't take sugar in coffee.

Do you make your own dandelion coffee Zig?

I do Dave, and I wouldn't entertain the H&B stuff.

I have various roasts of the stuff in the cuboard, ranging from properly done to lightly mothered.

Best one i've done was to sun dry before roasting.

I must be brain dead or something, as tea, coffee, white black expresso capacinno, coke a cola, water milk. or fruit juice makes no noticable difference other than it is wet or wet and warm and quenches my thirst

Alcohol does give me a little high, ie eight pints of beer or a dozen sprits, does not make me drunk or slur my speech, Maybe due to the half pint of Rum a day and three cans of beer for 22 years free issue (only ten for the rum, as they thought it was not a good idea to give you half a pint of Rum when you were incharge of the BIG RED button :-) so stopped it ) and certainly not slipping the tongue and voicing any opinion I did not have before the said drinks

I am not one of the brigade that take an exprsso and go OMG dig dig dig the garden I am exploding with caffeine

I seem to be missing out on something here

Are you sure you are just drinking Tea ?

OH used to drink a ridiculous amount of coffee - so much so that he ended up with palpitations. So he had to switch to decaff and Sheal is right - the Kenco version is very good indeed.

For years, I struggled to find a version of green tea which actually tasted pleasant. Tetley's lemon green tea is really nice and now I don't miss the ordinary stuff at all. Half price at Sainsburys at the moment!
