I too drink Rooibos tea. We get it from Aldi and it's very good for you ...

In the afternoons we often have a hot Bovril drink (I used to when I worked also) and I like hot blackcurrant drink when I want something sweeter or fruity.

Nice - well the drinking chocolate, anyway - but calorific. Tetley's Lemon Green Tea, on the other hand, has the smug calorie count of 1 and still tastes ok. :)

Hi Jack, My first ' Tot O Rum' was on my first trip to sea, Glasgow to Virginia. The weather was rather fierce (to say the least). We where all mustered midships at the stewards room,he had this big pouring jug and 2 small silver goblets. It came my turn, he gave me the goblet and said,"Drink It In One Go"!.
I lifted the rum to my lips, opened my mouth, head back and attempted to throw it down my throat. At this moment the ship was battered by some large waves causing the ship to roll and shudder sending most of the rum 'Up my nose'.:rolleyespink:.
Never a drop of rum has touched my lips since.
It Goes straight down my throat.:WINK1:.

I think it's a case of having a trial period with caffeine free coffee. It's like most things, you have to give it time to get used to the change.

I had to switch from white to wholemeal bread a few months back, I soon got used to it and can't stand white bread now. :)

Many years ago whilst serving Thatcher and Ron RAYGUN were guests onboard the ship

After dinner Ron Raygun was asked coffee sir
      Yes DECAFFE please

OMG in those days Decaffe, was more or less unheard of, especially on a Pussers War Canoe
      Well they had none!

A special call was made to all hands on board "does anyone have any Decaffe coffee onboard"
Just one member of the crew had a Nescafe coffee pack, little Red sachets of Nescafe decaffe were included in the box as a free trial :-)

The President of the USA was given his Decaffe and after avoiding this National catastrophe, they did not even re emburse the guy

(pussers coffee back then was issued in 2lb, tins, dark brown powder and tasted horrible, obviosly at sea in those days the only milk was Tinned Evaporated Milk, so a few guys , The rich ones off course, brought their own sachets of Nescafe )

If I'd have been that guy, I'd have been sufficiently annoyed by the principle of that matter to crack whoever was in charge right in the face. Except I almost certainly wouldn't have, but I'd have grumbled about it more than enough to make whoever was in charge wish I'd just cracked them in the face and be done with it.

Info found on....Hot chocolate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The very small amount of caffeine found in cocoa may also be a concern, though a typical eight ounce cup of hot chocolate contains nine milligrams of caffeine, while an eight ounce cup of coffee may contain up to 133 milligrams depending on the brand. As such, caffeine is not a major health concern associated with hot chocolate.

Unfortunately in the armed forces it does not work like that, even today

When the front men go forward, there are military police behind you, and IF you were to turn back they shoot you, Brave men military police

If you grumble about something then you are DEMORALISING your comrades and disiplinary action will be taken, ie:- chucked out and loss of pension

Back in the 60's at sea, one very young sailor, when it was rough, put his self inflatable lifejacket on to get into his pit (bed) He was disiplined for causing alarm to the crew lost his annual leave and two weeks pay

The UK forces still work on a SUB SERVIANT basis ( well at least up until 1980 that I know of)
