With this cold weather, you might get Field Fares visiting the table, they normally keep away from humans but last winter they were getting hungry.

Mine have fat balls, seed and they've had left over fruit cake today, its the water I can't keep defrosted been out 3 times today with boiling water to defrost the birdbath and still they're skating on it!!!! poor things.
Unfortunately we have pigeons, magpies and this morning jackdaws!!!, I throw a bit of food among the shrubs so the smaller birds get a bit of a look in too, the pigeons are so fat!!!!

The Pigeons are not really fat, they just fluff up more in the cold weather.

Pigeons can't make pies, they can't roll pastry with their wings.

Please do - I'll keep trying to get some better shots!

P.S. Bought a couple of coconuts reduced to 6p each at Morrisons to make some blue tit feeders.

            What are Field Fares??!

Pic fm bedroom window this morning. Can just about make out squirrel scoffing from long nut feeder at the back. I am not proud to confess that after an unfortunate incident with a labrador shortly after photo was taken that was the tree rat's last supper:([IMG]

I can't get many birds in my garden - I assume it's because there are cats roaming around. Is there a way of making a feeder cat-proof? I only have little trees

I have a bird feeding station in my garden which I bought from Asda for about £20. It's similar to this one (which is better than the one I've got and currently on offer). My cats haven't managed to shin up it yet :WINK1:

I've stocked my feeders up. They had a thick layer of snow on so had to clear that away. They have five different feeding stations to choose from with a selection of fat balls, seed mix and fruit.

We usually get the wood pigeons, collared doves (my favourites), blue tits, gold finches, blackbirds, sparrows, and the starlings which have started nesting in my eaves already. There are others which I don't know the names of. I did see a song thrush in my garden yesterday, which was the first time ever :wub2:
