wow moon lucky escape :dbgrtmb: good on you

julie believe in yourself and trust in your will power, if the gimmick helps you then use it, but you would be better off just quitting by YOUR WILL POWER rather than substituting one cravy for another

:dbgrtmb: for making the choice to quit
:grouphug: for when you need that extra support XX

Moonraker, I didn't say I'd given up but had reduced the amount I smoke. I also said I have tried to give up many times but failed and there is nothing on the market that can help me. I know it has to be will power, or a shock like you've had that would probably make me think, but I'm not so sure even that would work.

Different people have different levels of addiction and unfortunately I'm in the higher bracket.

OK im going to ask you to do something, Now im not near you so its up to you if you do or dont do as im asking & im asking for you "not me" just you,
Im a stranger you've never met, but a stanger can be a friend you've yet to meet?

This is what i want you to do, find and go to the nearest animal rescue centre, "for rehoming dogs etc" and just walk around and see whats looking back at you! some will bark, some will just shake some will almost plead with you to have a heart and just take them for a short walk.

These animals are there by no choice of their own, they didnt have a choice to make, all they want is someone to love them "no matter how ugly they may look, just a little care,

But this care takes money, Money to feed them, money for vets bills so that their needs can be met.

And you've got no will power!!!

Try what ive asked and you have a choice those animals dont have and that choice is every time you feel like a treetreetree go and offer to take one of those animals for one of a few walks they'll get in their life (if you can call being locked up for no crime "a life" and the money you we're going to let go up in smoke that'll do you harm! Give it to a good cause that wants to live.
This may seem a very hard way to say to you 'life is worth living" but i feel you do want to stop but need a reason, well ive asked you to do this.
        FROM ONE STRANGER TO ANOTHER.

That's about it in a nutshell..
There are NO pills patches or potions that will help you to give up smoking. Cutting down or taking mild doses of nicotine through patches etc is just plain daft (..or a con - Take your Pick).
What is required is the removing nicotine from your system completely - as quickly as possible. The only way to do that is to stop smoking.
I gave up a couple of years ago and so far, surprise, surprise, I honestly don't miss 'em. However, I do get the very occasional urge to smoke which lasts for as long as it takes for me to think about something else.

Well I was in the Royal Navy and we got duty free cigs and Free customs siezed cigs, and as a watch keeper ie work 0800 to 16OO, Then 1800 to 2000 then 2359 to O400 sat at a radio all night smoked about 80 per day

On leaving they went from FREE or £1 a carton of 200 to £3 for 20 I gave up
It was hard, and the substitue NICORBREVIN was more expensive, but after three months it had gone, I have not had a cig since and never desiere one, even when working in pubs all night as an electronics engineer
Nothing there at all, other than marked for life on NHS records and belive me shortly this will be if ill then charge them for care same with insurance companies

Now all I need to crack is beer, I know I can do it, IF I want to lose my friends, that is the problem
I can happily stop and have done when they were away on holidays, but I know these two single men rely on my company and advice, I CAN DITCH the alchohol but can not ditch my friends, I say I can ditch the alcohol, but I just could not go the the PUB and drink orange juice, though I think this is a greed problem, I buy them a pint each at £3.50 They give me an orange juice at a £1 back ?
Oh to hell, I am just going next weekend and saying we buy our own, To stay at home would be even better, but these guys rely on ME (They missed the boat for wives girlfriends and are now in their 50's I am all they know And they do not team up together which would be an idea)
Actually when they are on shift and say they can not come out, the relief to stay in and visit GC is great

Jack, I'm told that tonic water doctored with just three drops of angostura bitters makes a very acceptable soft drink which will convince everyone that you're on the hard stuff.

I have taken your point of view on board.

I have owned three rescue dogs in the past and know what it's like to walk round these places. I also make donations to our local animal rescue home. I have also been to Battersea Dogs Home.

Yes, I do want to give up and I will make another attempt when I'm ready. But it's difficult for me for more than one reason which I'm not prepared to put on open forum. :)

That's actually not true. Champix works by supressing the receptors that derive stimulation (pleasure) from Nicotine. So, the urge to smoke is diminished, and all that's left is the habit itself (which is no small thing).

                Cheers...Freddy.

                That's interesting, Freddy.
Wish I had known that when I gave up since the first week or so involves pretty dire cravings when dealing with the physical withdrawal symptoms. Thereafter kicking the habit is just something you deal with - but is not remotely near the discomfort of the initial withdrawal symptoms.

Give up cold turkey, you know what I mean....:heehee:

I had a really bad chest cold, had a job to climb the hill to see doc, I knew then I would give up.

I did it cold turkey, no spearment, no e cig...nothing only water when it got tough. That was going on four years ago now.

I got urges to smoke, sometimes strong, sometimes easy. I thought of all I could save. I went to tenerife for three weeks on what I saved.
