Was wrecked during the recent high winds :( a lot of broken panes. Was wondering how expensive it will be to replace the glass. Its a second hand greenhouse which I got about 5yrs ago, used it a lot at first but the past 2 years have only used it for growing tomatoes, which dissappoint me to be honest. I'm wondering now if its worth the expense to repair it.

I have feeling if I got rid of it I would regret it LOL

I priced 24" X 24" horticultural glass at £6:00 each, I'm looking elsewhere. Cheers, Tony.

Try asking on freecycle if anyone has spare greenhouse glass. I got nearly a full 8 x 6 greenhouse lot of glass just before Christmas, the owners had replaced theirs with Polycarbonate so I got around 20 x 24" x 24" for nothing. So I have a lot of spares for my greenhouse and can use the others at the allotment for a massive cold frame and bringing beans on etc.

    Steve...:)

As hort. glass is a cheaper alternative to proper glass if you are handy at diy scrounge old glazing panels and strip/split with a stanley knife and cut glass to size,as long as they aren't toughned glass they will cut easy and will be free from double glazing companies who have to pay to dump them.

Do not think of ditching the greenhouse, maybe just tomatoes that you are not impressed with Then improve your variety or technique, and you will need it later anyway when you move on to seed / plant production, in later years it will cost you far more to replace than some glass IMHO

If you get rid of it you'll regret it. If you can't source second hand glass as suggested in previous posts it would be worthwhile contacting local glaziers for prices or looking at the price of polycarbonate in a DIY store.
