    Hiya chums.

Has anyone tried these runner beans? They are a new variety introduced last year and seem to be quite highly rated by one or two seed companies. One thing though, in the blurb it mentions that they are NOT completely stringless.... "Although the pods of Runner Bean ‘Wisley Magic’ are not completely stringless, they have a low fibre content and a superior flavour - that 'old fashioned' runner bean taste."

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers...Freddy.

Freddy I've grown this variety for 2 years now and their yield is incredible. Fantastic flavour, long pods and when they say not completely stringless they are like other stringless varieties leave them 2 long and they become tough. Went on holiday last year after picking nearly all the beans when i came back i had about 6 good handfuls in just 2 weeks. Amazing grower. I would strongly recommend these bean to anybody who like the old bean taste. Will be planting these again this year as i saved last years seed. If you get some let me know how the got on.

Hi Freddy, Wisley Magic have been around for a few years now, they achieved the RHS Award of Garden Merit some time ago, but some seed companies are introducing them as new.

I haven't tried them thus far, I generally grow Scarlet Emperor which is an old established bean. I might try WM this year or Moonlight which has had some very good reports.

Last year I also grew St George in a neighbours garden, lovely red & white flowers and a very heavy crop, but to be honest, the flavour wasn't as good as Emperor.

This link from the RHS site might be of interest: http://www.rhs.org.uk/getattachment/e0b1cc20-b2e5-4d1a-9698-8e84946289c8/Runner-Beans.aspx

I grew Wisley magic a few years ago, got them in a trade. Even with the heat here they did very well so well that I had to freeze most of them and we were eating them right through the winter, best of all they were tasty ,Honestly I don't remember them being string less or not, just remember they were tasty.

          Thanks for that folks :)

Along with a few other things, Wisley Magic have been ordered :thumb: Quite timely really, as T&M have a 'free postage' thing on right now, and with every order, 'Sungold' for 20p!
