What have we got to lose? He might actually bring a touch of 'class' to the event :)

You wouldn't bat an eyelid if Shirley Bassey were to go for it, just because you're getting on, doesn't mean you're past it. Look at Shiney for instance.

At least the Guy can sing - and with a name like that he may confuse the Germans.
Just the length of his name may cause the Russians to look twice at him.

Scooch & Jemini have set the bar at levels he cannot possibly achieve - hopefully:nono:

I think it's a great decision. Men of Englebert's age don't get many nights out, let alone well paid ones, and the organisers will probably throw in an Age Concern minibus to get him to and fro, as well as a buffet and free drinks. On the way over, he can keep repeating 'I'm seventy-five, you know' as well as that old standard 'I remember the war'. If the whole thing turns out to be a disaster, he'll have forgotten everything by the time the after show party comes along, and will wisely concentrate on getting stuck into the sherry, shoving the finger-food in a doggie bag for later and moaning about the price of stamps.

The only thing i'm worried about is we might never see him again....that's what usually happens to our eurovision entries....
                Don't mind a bit of Mr Humperdink:dbgrtmb:

I thought this at first. I was listening to a discussion about it on Radio 2 today. They were saying on there that a lot of the Eastern European
entries in the past were dated as well, so with that in mind, he might stand a chance if they like that sort of thing. :)

He dont stand a chance, and my guess is no one who wants a career wants anything to do with Eurovision.
It was known to be slightly tacky years ago, but since the Eastern European countries have taken it over its just a "vote for your mates" kind of thing.

The thing that amazes me is how blatantly the voting is done by those countries.

I think we should just get out of it and take our money with us.

I kinda agree with Pete. Whilst the voting 'patterns' remain the same, there's never going to be a credible result. I actually never watch the whole thing, as most of the entries/tunes are rubbish, imo. I used to enjoy the voting part when our 'Terry' was involved, but alas, he's moved on....
