Am I in a minority in that I don't have a Facebook account? I did try Facebook but never understood why people posted what they had for breakfast/lunch/dinner, where they were and what they were doing every 1/2 hour. When I did have an account I had a few work colleagues on there and in the job I do I was shocked at the stuff they posted! What are other peoples views on Facebook? Personally I phone people to catch up.

I bet you love Twitter as well.
I have both, but very rarely actually post anything.
It is, however, somewhere I check if something (or what) has happened locally - and sometimes further afield.
It can be quicker to get information that way than waiting for news updates.
I agree 95% on Facebook and a lot on Twitter is Dross - especially those Facebook entries that have been placed by Mobile phone on - or after - Closing time

To: Murphy's Mom. Personally I don't post those things, what we had for breakfast stuff. My bunch ususally adds quality information and some fun for the day. I don't have the time to "talk on the phone" to catch up as I work too much out of the home. A simple quick look at friends and I can type fairly fast for responds is what I can do. I would love to have the time to just sit with a cup of coffee with a friend, but I do not.

I really do enjoy Facebook and have located some special people on it, and far away friends.

No Murphy's mum, you are not alone, I for one (as well as Jack McHammocklashing) also do not have a facebook account, but unlike you two, I have NEVER had one, never even looked at it from anyone elses pc, phone etc.

I understand that there are some groups of on there of like minded people, lets say (as this is a gardening site) "the red gladioli group" so presumably they only talk about gladioli that are red, not yellow etc, but to be honest, I don't see the point.

I also understand there is a new thing coming out, where by you only post pictures, again, I don't understand what that's all about.

I think it was Ann Widdecombe who said "long gone are the days when if some one wanted you they would call back later" now all people do is carry a mobile and tell the world what they are doing.

Sadly, I do have those "friends" who don't call back later, even though they say they will. Bottom line, I am not fooled, I know in general a real "friend" are a very small number below 5 maybe 3.

But for facebook, you can set it up to your taste, like mine, has lots of cooking buddies and gardenig buddies on it, so there is information flowing in that I scan, ideas from others about topics I like. Most stuff on my facebook really is quality material.

Maybe only, those group folks, who have limited spice in their life have to broadcaste what they had for breakfast because that is their peak of their day.

A couple of my "buddies" want to do these games, all of which I simply ignore. I only let on my facebook what I chose.

I'm on facebook. I joined just to see what all the fuss was about (and still don't know). I only post to it when drunk, and occasionally log in to see if anyone has poked me (or whatever the term is:what:)

One time, having got sick of being inundated with invites to join various groups, I created a group called something like 'I created this group just because I can'. I got a few followers. Says it all really.

To me facebook is similar to what we have been doing now, talking with someone. but on a different forum.

Having said that, in my family, Facebook is used to write status' about each other, without mentioning names, but making it obvious who it's about.. so I don't have relatives on mine.

I binned off two of mine for that reason. My step sister and her husband who split up, and then started using bookface as a way to making (not so)subtle digs at each other. Both competing for popularity. Neither won in my book. I binned them both.

Rumours going round on Facebook about me being gay between family members who haven't seen me since 2009 summed it up perfectly

Oh, yes, heard about that. In general, you all have to be careful what you put into writting.

Thank goodness I'm not alone not having a Facebook account. I was out with a few friends last week and all 5 of them felt the need to 'check in' to facebook to let others know where they were :gaah: I sat there thinking WHY?!?!? The games requests I kept getting drove me nuts, and I can honestly never take some of my work colleagues seriously having had an insight to their Facebook world.

I have no idea what Twitter does gcc3663, I have only read about Tweets (normally from celebrities) in the press.

Redstar I generally tend to talk to my friends/family on hands free on my mobile going to or coming home from work :)
