I have a problem with my BT Studio 3500 Answering Machine because it suddenly says "You have no messages" and then a few seconds later it says "you have 15 messages" and proceeds to recite all the messages. This has been happening for several days and several times a day - at no special times. I have read the manual but cannot see anything to help. I have tried to delete all messages, turn answer phone off or turn the volumn down but none of the buttons seem to work.

We bought the phone about 4 years ago. The handset works ok.

Nights I turn the phone off at the wall as it most disconcerting to hear the answer phone in the dead of night.

Any telephone experts on GC who can advise please? :dunno:

Sounds to me like its developed a fault. You said you've had it 4 years, sadly quality isn't what it once was and 4 years is a good life span for much kit.

I think I'd be tempted to introduce it to another piece of equipment found in most households. The bin.

I'd agree with Dave, sounds like the microchip that activates as soon as the guarantee expires has kicked in.

          Thank you for replies.
I am not surprised - but I did not really want to consign it to the
bin if not necessary. Will have a look for a new one tomorrow.[IMG]

As its 4 years old I wonder have you changed its batteries?
When batteries get old they need more power to charge, this in turn causes all sorts of problems as the power supply can not keep up with the demand.

Some phones its easy to change the batteries on, and in some cases only cost around a fiver, BUT you then find the buttons are wearing out, or the display is going etc, and as the phone is only £18.99 (other suppliers are available) I would get a new phone

Very good point watergarden. Some gadgets do behave strangely when the batteries are no longer up to the job.

              Hi Watergarden.
The handset is still working - no problem and the batteries in it are fairly new.
It's the answerphone/base unit that is faulty and there are no batteries - it is
              plugged into a socket.

I have been looking on internet and found one on Amazon about £20 plus shipping
so if I can't get one locally I will order from there. We have had no trouble with this
one until now and if I buy a different model I will probably have to change my two extra handsets as well.
Also OH has just got used to using this one (yes, after 4 years) and a new model might be difficult.

              .

Is it another BT one?? I have just bought a telephone/answering machine but I got a secondhand one off ebay. I have been reading bad reports of BT stuff, i.e. it doesn't last like it used to!!!:frown: I have an old BT phone here, still going strong, must be 15 years old at least!!

Yes, I have bought another BT Studio 3500 Answer machine Gemini.
I have been very pleased with it's performance the 4 years I have
had it so if this one lasts another 4 years it will be ok. Can't expect
a top notch item for £24 but it's suitable for our needs. Might even
last 15 years like yours :)
