funny, there were 300 people where I used to work but when someone put a fake wheel clamp on the old boss's car on retirement day, the new boss said, "Have you seen Searchfield about that?"

Ok, I'm going to rewind time by a year because now I have only a 10 or 15 minute journey to work. Whereas I used to commute, typically 50 minutes drive on major trunk routes. I had to be at work for 9AM, at it would typically take 50 minutes if I set off by 7:45AM. Any later and I'd hit the rush and it was then a gamble to get there on time. So 7:45AM was the latest I'd set off. Incidentally, although I now work much closer to home, I still leave at about 7:45AM so I can start work by 8AM, and finish early.

That means getting up by 7AM at the latest. In my view, anyone not up by 7AM on a work day, or 8AM on a weekend (shift workers excused) is wasting valuable life.

So that means you have 45 minutes from leaping out of bed, to setting off. 45 minutes is plenty of time to get ready. You can get breakfast cooking while you run back upstairs to get washed, go to the loo, and get dressed. That leaves more than 30 minutes to enjoy breakfast and a cuppa or two before setting off.

The way to avoid pre-work stress is simple. Just make sure you're not rushing about. If you find your routine doesn't give you any spare time for that extra cuppa, or you find that one captain slow on the road to work makes it impossible for you to get their on time, then you just get up a bit earlier.

Aunt Bessie's taste of cardboard. Nothing like the home made version.

Alle, vielen Dank für die Rezept Yorkshirepuddings und Oniongravys (german is a beautiful language, believe me).

After all that, you'll probably get lightly mothered shoe leather garnished with Daffodil Soup.
