Spring, when a young man's heart lightly stops
as he opens the new council tax demand.

Its because we take 365 & a quarter days to go round The Sun Michael.

Before they compensated for it with the present calendar, we'd got so out of phase that christmas day was in the middle of summer.

We used to pay rates, then they brought out poll tax which doubled the amount. Then there were riots so they changed the name to council tax, which were still double but the plebs were happy because the name had been changed.

Same with petrol, when that went up to 90p a litre there were protests, now its 140p a litre but the price of a barrel of crude is still the same as when it was 90p, no one complains:what:

Ziggy, you've got to wait a few years before you can be a Grumpy Old Man :nonofinger: but you seem to be practicing quite well. :heehee:

The difference between poll tax and council Zig was that poll tax was per person, whereas council tax is per household. Its still a rip off, but less of one than poll tax was.

When poll tax came out, I was still living at home but of voting age. It meant that with me plus my dad and step mam, there were three of us in one house that had to pay full whack.

Whether you like one or the other depends on your personal situation and what you think the tax should actually be used for (each Coucil seems to have a different idea of priorities). A mix of ideology and practicality

Edit:- Whoops! that's getting a bit heavy. :hate-shocked: Sorry :)
