Took this shrub from a skip this morning. Was severely pot bound, but managed to save the pot for my French beans. Came with about 20 ladybirds too!

I think it's a Portuguese laurel but thought I would get a second opinion. I thought it might have been a bay when I first saw it but don't think it is now :(

Looks like a bay tree to me, The habit doesn't look right for Portugeuse Laurel, you need to crush the leaves and smell them, if they smell like Bay then it's a Bay!

I did crush a leaf this morning, but don't know what a bay leaf should smell like

Can you take some close up photos of the leaves and stems?

Next time your in the supermarket, look in the herb and spice rack and that should give you an idea what a dried bay leaf looks like. :)
The leaves on the one from you skip rescue look as if they are quite oily which I would expect from a bay, Portuguese Laurel are drier and more brittle.

I've seen bay leaves before and they look smaller than the leaves on this shrub, but then again the ones in the jar are smaller so they can fit in it.

I've taken a few more pictures, which show it a lot clearer I hope.

Aha! It's a Portugeuse Laurel! :ideaIPB: The red tinges to the Leaf stalks give it away- couldn't see them in the previous photos. It should grow for you, I'd give it plenty of water as it was pot bound and it'll soon get growing!
