Depends what it is you've sown. The heat might've put the in-germinated seeds back into dormancy, so they will need that to be broken. My advice would be to pull out and discards the already germinated and frazzled seed and throw them away. Soak the seed tray/container and put it in a plastic bag and pop it in the fridge for a week. Then put it back where you normally germinate your seeds and wait and see what happens. With a bit of luck you might get some more germinating.
I would also suggest that in future when you go away for the day you move your seedlings out of the scorching sun or provide them with some shade  :dbgrtmb:

You say they were scorched. Had you watered them with sun on them or before the sun had moved round. If so, this would be why.

It was probably to hot for them. I don't see that you have much chance of reviving them, sorry.

Were they on a sunny windowsill? It's best to keep a propagator away from the sun on days like this, the temp can soar in a few minutes. Do you have a max/min thermometer to keep track of temps?

That's what gardening's all about noksucnow, keep trying. We're all still learning and it doesn't matter how much experience we've got, there's always something new to pick up. :)

Last year I sowed about 1,000 seeds (my first year) God knows how many of them germinated, but I sowed quite a lot, probably August time, and they were a couple of inches tall, went out for the day and came back, they were all dead.. that was in a plastic greenhouse, so now I always make sure I leave the doors open on it if I'm going out for quite awhile that day. Good luck with future sowings!

I went to buy a Max Min thermometer at Home base about six weeks ago

      Only problem was
All the thermometers on the shelf were showing different ranges from 10c to 22c Max and current, and between 6c and 19c Min
Therefore not much confidence in their accuracy

I bought one of the three showing Min 12c Max 19c as I thought that to be more realistic

They do vary Jack. I've taken mine into work to compare with colleagues (as you do when the office air con breaks down and everyone hopes we will get sent home if it's hot) ... anyway out of about 5 digital thermometers not one agreed, they varied by about 5 deg C, even the traditional mercury ones were different.
