a couple of onion questions

    hey all just a couple of questions
    is it too late to grow onions from seed as i have found a load of seeds that i thought i had lost
    also i was wondering how onion sets are produced

    You can give it a go, might not get huge ones but its still only march. Its the competition ones we start off really early.

    Sets have got something to do with stopping them by heat treatment I think, or did I dream that?

    I think sets are heat treated to prevent them bolting , other wise they are just little onions. How they produce them so cheaply is beyond me , I bought a huge bag of Sturon sets in Wilkos for £1.50 why bother with seed ?

    i like to keep and use my own seed , plus i can use the £1.50 i saved on another pack of seed and still have onions :snork:
